Step 8

Confirm Leantime is running

After deployment finishes, return to the Apps tab and confirm the Leantime app is marked Running with its application URL available.

Step 9

Open Leantime in the browser

Open the application URL in a browser. The Leantime web UI confirms the site is reachable.

After Leantime Opens

  • Complete the Leantime setup wizard before production use.
  • Configure projects, HTTPS, email, and user access before production use.
  • Add a domain and HTTPS before exposing the project workspace to users.
  • Back up the Leantime MySQL and user file volumes before relying on it for production projects.

Verified Result

The Leantime web UI loaded successfully in a browser.

Leantime deployment questions

What does the Leantime template deploy?

It deploys Leantime with MySQL plus persistent user file volumes.

Which port did the tutorial use?

The tutorial used host port 3001, which maps to the Leantime web server on container port 8080.

Why does the guide stop at the first-run web UI?

The tutorial verifies the clean first-run web UI because real projects, users, tasks, and access settings depend on the production server.

Should this become a blog post?

No. The deployment guide should live on the Leantime template detail page and be linked from the reusable template deployment docs page.

Command Line Setup

Install Leantime Manually

Set up Leantime yourself using Docker Compose and the command line.

1

Access Your VPS Terminal

Use your terminal to securely access your server. You'll need your server's IP address.

terminal
# Connect via SSH
ssh root@your-vps-ip

# Alternative with key file
ssh -i /path/to/key root@your-vps-ip

First time? Make sure Docker is installed on your VPS. Run: curl -fsSL https://get.docker.com | sh

2

Set Up the Deployment Folder

Initialize a project folder on your server.

terminal
# Create and navigate to project directory
mkdir -p ~/apps/leantime
cd ~/apps/leantime
3

Set Up the Stack Definition

Use this Docker Compose configuration for your deployment:

docker-compose.yml
services:
  leantime:
    image: leantime/leantime:latest
    ports:
      - "8080:80"
    environment:
      - LEAN_DB_HOST=mysql
      - LEAN_DB_USER=leantime
      - LEAN_DB_PASSWORD=<your-db-password>
      - LEAN_DB_DATABASE=leantime
      - LEAN_SITENAME=Leantime
    volumes:
      - leantime_data:/var/www/html/userfiles
      - leantime_public:/var/www/html/public/userfiles
    restart: unless-stopped

4

Start the Containers

Bring up your containers in detached mode.

terminal
# Start all services
docker compose up -d

# List running containers
docker compose ps

# Watch the logs
docker compose logs -f
5

Set Up Firewall Rules

Allow the application port through your server's firewall.

terminal
# Allow the application port through firewall
sudo ufw allow 8080/tcp
sudo ufw reload

# Access your app at:
Skip the Terminal
