After Poste.io Opens

  • Complete the initial server configuration and create the first admin account.
  • Publish DNS records before using the server for real mail: A, MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
  • Expose and firewall the required mail protocol ports before sending or receiving real mail.
  • Replace the self-signed certificate with a trusted certificate before production use.
  • Back up the posteio_data volume regularly because it stores mail, accounts, and TLS keys.

Poste.io deployment questions

What does the Poste.io template deploy?

It deploys the Poste.io all-in-one mail server container with a persistent data volume and the admin/webmail HTTPS interface mapped to a host port.

Which port did the tutorial use?

The tutorial used host port 4200, which maps to the Poste.io HTTPS admin/webmail interface on container port 443.

Why does the guide stop at the initial setup page?

The tutorial verifies that the hosted admin interface is reachable. Real mail delivery depends on production DNS, certificate, firewall, and provider port-25 policy that should be configured for the final domain.

Should this become a blog post?

No. The deployment guide should live on the Poste.io template detail page and be linked from the reusable template deployment docs page.

After Deployment

After deploying Poste.io with Server Compass, complete these steps to finish setup

1

Visit http://YOUR_SERVER_IP:{{PORT}} and complete the setup wizard - create the admin account and the first domain

2

Generate DKIM keys in the admin UI under Server settings → DKIM and publish the resulting TXT record in DNS

3

Configure SPF and DMARC TXT records for the domain

4

Add the mail protocol ports (25/465/587/993/995) to the compose file and redeploy, then open them in your firewall

5

Send a test email and run it through https://www.mail-tester.com to verify deliverability
