After OneDev Opens

  • Complete the OneDev installation wizard and create the first administrator account.
  • Store the administrator credentials and any CI/CD secrets in a secure password manager.
  • Add a domain and HTTPS before inviting users or pushing repositories over the public internet.
  • Configure Git SSH, build agents, credentials, and job permissions before using OneDev for production CI/CD.
  • Back up the OneDev data volume before relying on it for production repositories and jobs.

Verified Result

The OneDev app loaded successfully in a browser and displayed the first-run setup screen.

OneDev deployment questions

What does the OneDev template deploy?

It deploys the OneDev server container with a persistent data volume, web access on port 6610, Git SSH access on port 6611, and Docker socket access for CI/CD workloads.

Which port did the tutorial use?

The tutorial used host port 6610, which maps to the OneDev web UI on container port 6610.

Why does the browser verification stop at the setup screen?

A fresh OneDev deployment is considered reachable when the first-run setup screen loads. Completing setup creates real administrator credentials, so the public guide stops before account creation.

Should this become a blog post?

No. The deployment guide should live on the OneDev template detail page and be linked from the reusable template deployment docs page.

DIY Deployment

Self-Host OneDev with Docker

Take the DIY route and deploy OneDev on your own server using Docker.

1

Remote into Your Server

Initiate a secure shell connection to your server using the command below.

terminal
# Connect to your VPS
ssh root@your-server-ip

# Or with a specific SSH key
ssh -i ~/.ssh/your-key root@your-server-ip

First time? Docker required! Install it with: curl -fsSL https://get.docker.com | sh

2

Create the App Directory

Organize your deployment by creating a dedicated project folder.

terminal
# Create and navigate to project directory
mkdir -p ~/apps/onedev
cd ~/apps/onedev
3

Write Your docker-compose.yml

Create a new docker-compose.yml file and paste this configuration:

docker-compose.yml
services:
  onedev:
    image: 1dev/server:latest
    ports:
      - "6610:6610"
      - "6611:6611"
    volumes:
      - onedev_data:/opt/onedev
      - /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock
    restart: unless-stopped

volumes:
  onedev_data:
Configurable Options
PORTWeb port(default: 6610)
SSH_PORTSSH port(default: 6611)
4

Launch the Containers

Start the services and tail the logs to verify startup.

terminal
# Spin up containers
docker compose up -d

# Verify deployment
docker compose ps

# Check logs for errors
docker compose logs -f
5

Open Firewall Ports

Open the required port in your firewall to allow access.

terminal
# Allow the application port through firewall
sudo ufw allow 6610/tcp
sudo ufw reload

# Access your app at:
Skip the Terminal
