How Team Workspace Recovery Works

Export the bundle

In Team settings, use Export recovery bundle and store the sealed file somewhere separate from the laptop it came from.

Keep the passphrase apart

The bundle is protected by a recovery passphrase that is never stored by the app. Keep it somewhere other than the bundle itself.

Restore on the new device

Restore Owner workspace asks for the bundle, the passphrase and the original storage destination — all three are required.

Pick up where you left off

The workspace, its members and its permissions come back on the new machine.

This is what you'd have to do manually without Team Workspace Recovery. We don't recommend it.

Copy the encrypted workspace out of your bucket

The snapshot is encrypted, so a plain object copy is the only manual backup available.

Store the keys somewhere other than the laptop

The bucket copy is useless on its own — the material that decrypts it has to survive separately.

If the passphrase and the storage destination are lost with the device, an encrypted workspace snapshot cannot be recovered by anyone, including Server Compass.
